In Scottish rugby, the 15-player team divides into forwards (props, hooker, locks, flankers, number 8) and backs (scrum-half, fly-half, centres, wingers, fullback). Forwards contest scrums and lineouts, while backs handle ball movement and attacking play. Each position has specific roles: props and hooker form the front row, locks jump at lineouts, flankers and number 8 tackle and carry, and backline players execute passing and running moves.
