Sione Fukofuka has stepped down as head coach of Scotland Women, citing personal and family reasons for his departure after approximately eight months in charge of the national side.
Sky Sports reported that Fukofuka left the role for personal reasons, while the BBC described the cause as ‘family stress’, and The Independent noted he cited the ‘stress and strain’ the position was placing on his family.
The Scotsman reported that Fukofuka himself described the decision as the ‘hardest decision’ he has had to make, and confirmed that an interim appointment has been put in place to cover the role while Scottish Rugby looks to make a permanent replacement.
Fukofuka had taken on the head coach position earlier in the year, and his departure represents a significant setback for the Scotland Women’s programme.
