Scotland's greatest rugby teams include the 1925 side that won the Grand Slam, the dominant 1980s squads featuring players like John Rutherford and Jim Aitken, and the 1999 team that reached the Rugby World Cup semi-finals. The 1984 Grand Slam winners are widely regarded as one of the finest Scottish sides ever assembled. More recent competitive periods occurred in the early 2000s under Craig Chalmers' coaching.
