A hooker is the number 2 position in rugby, playing in the front row of the scrum between the two props. The hooker's primary responsibilities include throwing the ball into lineouts, hooking the ball in the scrum, and making tackles in open play. For Scotland, hookers must be strong scrummagers, lineout throwers, and physical defenders to compete at international level.
